For the price, this was a good pan. I used the Mickey pan to create a Minnie cake. It turned out pretty cute. I am definitely not a baker, but it's basically paint by numbers, as long as you have the time and patience. My only complaint was how thin the cake turned out. I used one whole cake box mix and had read not to fill the pan more than half way, or it will overflow. One box of white cake mix filled the pan a bit more than half way, and I thought I was going to have to do a lot of leveling, but it was thinner than I wanted and did not bake evenly. I doubt this is the fault of the pan, and is likely user error. In hindsight, I should have baked a test cake just so I would know exactly how much batter I would need. This is pretty time consuming, so I baked one evening and let the cake cool overnight, decorated the next day and then placed in the fridge for the party the following day. This worked well for me.

My son is obsessed with Disney Cars, so for his 3rd birthday we did the cars theme. I made him a cake using the Lightning McQueen pan and he loved it! It wasn't easy but the directions that came with the pan helped a lot in telling me which order to put which parts of the icing on. I used one box of typical cake mix to make this. I didn't use the exact icing the directions told to use (instead I used a tube of premade black icing and two tubs of premade vanilla icing, using gel food coloring to make the different colors). Most of the icing, including the black icing was appled with piping bags. For the parts not involving piping bags, I was able to smooth them out with my finger and a very tiny amount of water. I think it turned out pretty good for my first time making something like this, and I am not a professional cake decorator.

I also made jello with this same cake pan and my son loved that too.

The cake turned out great but was much narrower than I expected. It probably would only feed about 12 people. I ended up buying a 10x15 sheet cake pan and placed the McQueen cake on top of another sheet cake. Besides that, the instructions for decorating are basically paint-by-numbers.....and it took me FOREVER. Mixing all of the colors is time-consuming, and then for decorating they want you to use the same tip for like 5 different colors. So unless you have multiple of the same tip you are doing a lot of washing or using different tips (which is what I did). Pleased with the result, but it was no small feat.

This cake pan was better than I expected! The cake bakes perfectly in it and when removed (properly) you can see all the lines/indents in order to decorate it. What I didn't expect was step-by-step instructions included with pan on how to decorate the cake and what products/dye to buy. This was my first time decorating a cake like this (for 1st birthday smash cake) and the instructions helped me tremendously (with the help of my local True Value that carries Wilton products). The cake was a success and even though it took me 2 hours to decorate and my child 2 minutes to destroy, it was worth it!

Although the pan was well packaged and came by itself in a large Amazon box, it was bent in the middle which made it all wonky. Because the aluminum is fairly lightweight, you can't really bend it back the way it should be without causing some kind of crinkle in the design. The design was exactly what we wanted for my grandson's 4th birthday and the price was reasonable, it just didn't work out for us. The thickness/weight of aluminum pan was somewhere in between the disposable foil pans and a regular metal cake pan. The return process was very simple and I had no problems with that or in receiving my credit.

This pan looks great in the photo but it really is very odd. The perspective made it impossible to decorate. It was not strictly 2 dimensional so it felt like the cake needed to stand up to get the full effect. The photo insert was placed face up in the pan and was a reverse image when the actual cake was released. That meant you could not follow it easily as a template. I guess you were supposed to use the diagram with numbers on the reverse side, which was dumb. I felt that whomever designed this pan and the directions had never ever baked a character cake. My pan, and the impossible template is going in a yard sale. I would never use it again.

So glad it came earlier than expected. The pan isn't as thick and sturdy as I thought. The instructions for using the pan and decorating are very easy to follow. Unfortunately the bottom of my cake stuck to the bottom of the pan (even though I greased with shortening and floured it) so I didn't have the landmarks for the outlines but I used the insert as a guide. I didn't have any of the Wilton piping tips and don't think it's necessary. There are instructions for a smooth application too, which I think turned out well. My 2 and 4 year old were happy which was the goal!

This cake pan worked great!!! There's also instructions on how to color the frosting and how to start frosting it! I recommend putting some brown in with the skin colored frosting and not just the copper gel, it makes it a pinkish color and the brown levels it out. AND starting out with a chocolate frosting for the black part of Mickie. I went through 1/2 a small container of black gel food coloring to get it black enough. There's also a video on YouTube on how to decorate the cake. And how to color buttercream with gel. (Wilton videos) I used Wilton gel also. Hope this helps!
